As a very junior wordsmith I was involved in a minor way with the publication of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, indeed I may be to blame for several misspellings in the first edition. Douglas Adams, I recall as a very nice but private man. He was kind enough to let me interview him on the show I co-hosted at the time for a hospital radio station and was very patient with my inept questioning. I still have a copy of the original radio shows on vinyl, autographed by the great man.

That is very cool. Ya know, I had you pinned as an Adams fan. I could just tell somehow. Must have been an honor to get to speak to him, though I imagine he wasn't the most enthralling and engaging fellow. Not sure how long your hosting gig went on, but was he your favorite/best guest to interview?

You should be v proud...why are the most eloquent atheists all brits?

At least I am not as easily taken in by self-delusion as a puddle, eh?

Don't answer that...

I was trying to think of eloquent American atheists and the first names that came to mind were Edward Wilson, who wasn't really, and Gore Vidal. They, or I, will have to try harder.

Of course, I don't really consider myself an atheist. These days I'm more of a sceptical ironist - getting it wrong is pretty much human nature. ;-)
